EMDR Clinics

Dr. Amy is now offering EMDR Clinics in the areas where she is a licensed counselor:  Washington, DC area (licensed in Maryland), Seattle area (licensed in Washington State) and the NYC area (licensed in New York State).

EMDR Clinics are being offered on a rolling basis in those metro areas across the country because there are limited trained EMDR mental health providers and so many people in need of relief from their Traumas (Big T and Little T traumas alike) and anxieties.

EMDR can help with trauma (big T traumas and little t traumas), anxiety, overcoming barriers in ones life, overcoming grief, and even for women who have miscarried and are ready to try again for a pregnancy.  You may wonder what is a Big T trauma.  They are things like car accidents, war, violence, etc.  Little T traumas are a lot smaller, such as a experiencing a disappointment, losing a family member or companion animal like a dog or a cat, etc.

EMDR isn’t a talk therapy and it uses the mind’s connection to the body to help a person overcome these issues…even using a bit of good old imagination too.  It can take the place of 8 talk therapy sessions, all in a 45 minute to 1.5 hour session (all depends on a person’s individual need in regards to time). I’m excited to be expanding in this area and I know that it will allow me to help more people get relief for the things that they are emotionally suffering from.

Most of my clients who have tried EMDR have been hesitant at first to try it at first (which is truly understandable!) and all of those clients who tried it, post EMDR session say, “I don’t really get what happened, but I feel better and I would suggest everyone try EMDR”. Then, I tell them, “So do I”.

Anyway, the EMDR clinics are in development and dates getting setup.  Each EMDR session will be of course private, individualized and HIPPA compliant.

EMDR is not a covered benefit on insurance plans.  Each EMDR session with me is $350 per session (again, they replace up to 8 regular therapy sessions, so this is a great value).  The 1/2 hour prep session prior to the actual EMDR session may be covered by insurance and if not, the cost is $75.  The 1/2 hour follow-up session after EMDR also may be covered by insurance as well and if not, the cost is also $75.  I am not on every insurance panel, but am in network for most Blue Cross Blue Shield plans and also for Cigna.  Some other insurance plans that I am not in network for offer out of network benefits, so these sessions may be covered, after your deductible is met.
